Ebony Johnson, SmartStart Senior Support Leader

TechTown continues to rake in the good news with the recent appointment of Senior SmartStart Support Leader Ebony Johnson as the new secretary of the Michigan Business Incubator Association (MBIA).

The MBIA, established in 1985, promotes collaboration among incubators in Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties, with a special emphasis on exchanging entrepreneurial ideas and economic impact strategies.

“Ebony will be a great advocate for TechTown,’’ says Executive Director Randal Charlton. “Her appointment is one more thing that TechTown can take pride in.’’

Johnson joined TechTown in 2008. She currently oversees its two-year milestone driven SmartStart program, designed to help entrepreneurs take their ideas from startup to launch, and sometimes beyond.

“I am excited to represent TechTown at a state level!  Having attended the MBIA’s annual meeting the last couple of years has been rewarding in that I was able to connect with other incubators across the state,’’ she said.  “Now, serving as secretary for the association will allow me to contribute even more to Michigan’s economic development efforts through business incubation.’’

Look for Ebony as one of the featured presenters during the “Has God Given You a Business Idea?’’ workshop on October 2^nd at the University of Michigan Fairlane Center. She’ll share her views on entrepreneurship and TechTown’s role as its most visible and largest ambassador.
