    A partnership with the University of Windsor (Odette School of Business) to develop business relationships between Canadian companies and US purchasers.

Bio-Banking – A Center of Excellence

  • Asterand
    The leading supplier of high quality human tissue samples for medical research. TechTown’s first tenant, Asterand originally leased 11,000 square feet of space in July 2004 and expanded within its first year.

  • Michigan Bio-bank
    This is a statewide initiative in which Biological Samples that would otherwise be destroyed are being collected at TechTown, and examined for their use in drug development.

  • Perinatology Research Branch
    A division of the National Institutes of Health that conducts research on conditions responsible for perinatal morbidity and mortality, with a focus on premature labor, intrauterine growth retardation, congenital anomalies and pre-eclampsia.           

Non-Profits with a State, National and International Influence

  • Michigan Community Health Blood Spot bank
    The Michigan community health department is seeking a new home for 3 million blood spots that have been collected from every new born child in Michigan over the last 20 yeas.  A business plan has been produced which recommends that the Bank be housed at TechTown.  The data associated with the samples will be organized to make the bank more useful for medical research.

  • North American Public Health Institute
    The North American Public Health Institute is a collaboration between Wayne State University and the University of Windsor in Canada.  The institute has been in development for the last 2 years and researchers at both universities have collaborated to do research on a range of important issues including childhood safety in cars, obesity, women and violence, drug abuse an gambling.  The institute which is headquartered at TechTown will also compare the different health delivery systems on either side of the Detroit River.
  • Cryo-Innovations

    A new freezing process that optimizes the survival of embryos.  This  company has developed a portfolio of new freezer products.

High Technology FAST Companies

  • EXT Life Sciences
    A biotechnology company that genetically engineers the antioxidant enzyme catalase, using it to develop treatments that prevent, reduce or eliminate the cellular accumulation of harmful oxidants in the blood stream. This technology limits the impact of aging.

  • SciTech Development
    An incubator company created by scientists and business leaders affiliated with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University. The mission of the company is to bridge the gaps between basic or applied research and late stage commercial licensing.

  • SpaceForm
    A Deformation Resistant Welding (DRW) company, created by Delphi Technologies, Inc. which will commercialize technological advances in the manufacturing of space frames for automobiles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles , bicycles and wheelchairs.

    A computer technology architecture business that rebuilds obsolete computers for schools. Academic Computing Environments supplies school districts facing budget constraints with an affordable means of teaching computer literacy to students and eliminating the digital divide.
