TechTown benefits from strong support from multiple community partners who are invested in the revitalization of Detroit and Michigan. Our major supporting organizations:
- Wayne State University is a founding partner providing principal leadership in the development of TechTown. Under the direction and commitment of former President Irvin D. Reid, the university ensured the successful launch of TechTown by securing a $2 million grant and providing $10 million in loan guarantees. The university provides both leadership and ongoing financial support of $400,000 a year. President Jay Noren chairs the TechTown board and other senior Wayne State staff are board members and part of a support group that meets regularly to assist the TechTown management team.
- The Henry Ford Health System is a founding partner that initially donated office space, services and supplies to TechTown staff for a year prior to occupancy of TechOne. Jim Connelly, CFO of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), has been a board member and CFO of TechTown since its inception. HFHS moved its genetics labs to approximately 13,600 square feet of high-quality research space in TechOne in 2008.
- General Motors Corporation donated the TechOne building and car parking space to TechTown. The company maintains its involvement and support as a founding partner with a seat on the TechTown board.
